Self Portrait vs the Selfie

1. A selfie is a photo taken at arms length of yourself. Selfies are generally taken with either a web cam or a smartphone. Technically selfies are self portraits, but are not sculpted or painted.
          A self portrait is a work that shows one's self. The work is created by that person. Self portraits can take many forms, but self portraits are more often represented as art. The difference between the two is that self portraits are viewed more often as art and selfies are viewed as a way to show yourself.
           Of course, this is not always the case but this is how they are portrayed. I prefer self portraits, but I don't really care if you take selfies or not. I personally hate taking pictures of myself unless I'm doing something actually interesting. Self portraits and selfies that are art are important because we need to preserve who we are. An average Joe taking a photo of themselves in the McDonald's driveway is not.

 A. Phobia- the irrational fear of something.


 B. Cynophobia- the fear of dogs

Nyctophobia- the fear of the dark

Acrophobia- the fear of heights

Cyberphobia- the fear of computers or anything related to them

Xenophobia- the fear of the unknown


 C. I already have an idea for cynophobia and nyctophobia. For cynophobia, I could have someone sitting in a scared position and have my dog, Rain looking at them. For nyctophobia I could have someone sit in a dark room surrounded by lamps/lights or I could have someone reach for lights. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for another one.


Cynophobia- I could get one of my siblings to pose in a coward's position while my dog is looking at them. I think I would want this photo to be black and white to just make it more dreary. I would also want to shoot in landscape so I could have room for the dog and subject.


Nyctophobia- For this shoot, I will either have someone in the center of the frame surrounded by lamps, or have someone put their hand out in a dark room and reach for a light. I would shoot the lamp one in landscape to just have a lot of room to work with and I would shoot portrait on the hand one. I think it would give more of a first-person point of view to the photo.


I don't know what phobia I will use for my third phobia. But, I have something else to add. For this project, I'm not going to show faces. If I don't show faces, it will be easier for the viewer to put themselves in the shoes of the subject.


D. For both of these photos, I'm going to want to focus on simplicity. I don't want anything to distract the viewer from the phobia itself.

Welcome Back

I like this photo because it shows how problems like a snowstorm seem so insignificant from an outside prospective.

This photo is cool because the photo has an interesting angle for something like a training activity.

This photo is great because it shows that we are starting to take the conservation of wildlife more seriously.

Best Album

Donald Glover's "Awaken, My Love" was a really pleasant surprise. Glover under the name Childish Gambino has been mostly associated with the hip-hop genre for most of his musical career, but had a major change with this album. Gambino goes for a more rock and funk feel, making for a nostalgic piece of music.

Favorite scene in my not-favorite movie (SPOILER ALERT)

You know what scene I'm talking about if you've seen Rouge One. At the end of Rouge One, it shows how the Death Star plans are delivered the the Rebels. While the Rebels are giving the plans to the higher-ups, Darth Vader storms into an alliance ship and starts to just mow down Rebels. It was really fun to watch and definitely my favorite scene of 2016.

Trump won the presidency about two months ago and the world was shocked. The man who was considered a joke for the first part of his campaign conquered the Republican part. The man who was more than 10 points behind the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, came and won the election. Trump had faced countless controversies throughout his campaign and now he has to deal with that and more as the president of the United States of America.

Most important person

Speaking of Donald Trump... Trump was without question the most talked about person of 2016. It was almost impossible to escape the endless slew of news surrounding him. And most people either love Donald or they hate him.

Biggest Sports story

The Cubbies won! After 108 years the Cubs finally won a world series. This year was not the greatest for a whole lot of people and a good underdog story deserves some credit on this list.

My Holiday.

We got a dog. Her name is Rain and she's pretty cute.

I don't have specific resolutions I just want to improve myself in all areas.

Looking forward to changing political landscape. It's going to be very interesting.
